Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Expands Free Luggage Service for Pilgrims

In a significant initiative to enhance the pilgrimage experience for devotees visiting the sacred Tirumala temple, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has established an extensive network of 80 free luggage deposit and delivery counters. These facilities are strategically located across the hill town of Tirupati and at the entrances of the Alipiri and Srivari Mettu pedestrian routes, which are popular trekking paths to the abode of Lord Venkateswara.

Comprehensive Service for Trekking Devotees and Direct Darshan Seekers

The primary objective of this service is to provide a hassle-free journey for pilgrims who choose to trek up to Tirumala, as well as for those who prefer to enter the darshan queue lines directly without availing accommodation. By offering free luggage handling, TTD aims to alleviate the physical burden on devotees, allowing them to focus on their spiritual journey.

Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary highlighted the scale of this operation, noting that the temple trust handles over 10 lakh pilgrim baggages every single month. "There are around 400 personnel who operate in three shifts round the clock to render the free baggage collection and delivery services to devotees," he stated, emphasizing the precision and dedication behind this 24/7 service.

Strategic Placement of Counters at Pedestrian Routes

To specifically aid trekking devotees, TTD has set up seven free luggage deposit counters at the Alipiri pedestrian route entrance and two counters near the Srivari Mettu pedestrian route. Chowdary explained, "The idea of establishing the free luggage counters at the entrance of the twin pedestrian routes is aimed at helping devotees undertake the arduous trek to Tirumala without carrying their baggages. We ensure that the baggages deposited by the devotees at Alipiri and Srivari Mettu reach the designated delivery counters near GNC and MBC at Tirumala by the time they complete their holy trek."

Widespread Network and Impressive Statistics

Beyond the trekking routes, TTD has also established 71 free luggage counters across Tirumala for other pilgrims. These counters allow devotees to deposit their baggage before heading for darshan, with the luggage then transported to designated delivery points at PAC-4, GNC, and TBC areas.

The service has demonstrated remarkable efficiency, with around 10.4 lakh baggage deposits successfully handled in January alone. A notable peak was recorded on January 25, during the Radhasapthami festival, when luggage centres managed a single-day high of 1.3 lakh baggage deposits.

This initiative underscores TTD's commitment to improving pilgrim convenience and safety, making the spiritual journey to Tirumala more accessible and comfortable for millions of devotees annually.
