Uttarakhand Utsav Marks 25 Years with Awards and Development Discussions
Dehradun hosted the Uttarakhand Utsav, an event organized by Navbharat Times (NBT) to commemorate the state's 25th anniversary. The gathering brought together policymakers, cultural figures, and experts for a series of discussions covering topics from energy challenges to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the future of cinema.
NBT Uttarakhand Ratna Award Presented to Prasoon Joshi
The highlight of the event was the conferring of the inaugural NBT Uttarakhand Ratna award. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented this prestigious honor to author, poet, and Padma Shri awardee Prasoon Joshi. This recognition celebrated Joshi's significant contributions to literature and culture.
Infrastructure and Development Projects Highlighted
Chief Minister Dhami emphasized key infrastructure projects during his address. He noted that the Dehradun-Delhi Expressway represents a historic milestone for the state. Additionally, the Rishikesh-Karanprayag rail line is nearing completion, promising improved connectivity.
Dhami also announced that the central government has approved the Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail project, with an estimated cost of Rs 48,000 crore. Work is currently underway to upgrade 11 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, further enhancing transportation infrastructure.
Union Minister of State for Surface Transport Ajay Tamta discussed plans for ropeway projects aimed at facilitating easier access to pilgrimage sites such as Kedarnath and Hemkund. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to boost religious tourism in the region.
Budget Growth and Healthcare Expansion
State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Forests, and Health Subodh Uniyal provided insights into Uttarakhand's financial and healthcare progress. He revealed that the state's budget has grown significantly, reaching Rs 1.1 lakh crore this year. In comparison, Himachal Pradesh's budget stands at Rs 65,000 crore.
Uniyal highlighted the expansion of healthcare infrastructure, noting that from a single medical college at the time of the state's formation, Uttarakhand now boasts multiple institutions across various districts. This development aims to improve medical services and accessibility for residents.
Cultural and Technological Discussions
Film director Madhur Bhandarkar participated in the event, discussing changes in the Hindi film industry. He suggested that Uttarakhand has the potential to emerge as a hub for nurturing new talent in cinema, leveraging its scenic locations and cultural heritage.
Poets Nawaz Deobandi and Pratibha Katiyar engaged in a dialogue about the role of AI in creative fields. They expressed that while AI can replicate existing expressions, it cannot generate truly novel thought. This conversation underscored the ongoing debate about technology's impact on artistry.
Promoting Spirituality and Tourism
Pradeep Batra, the state's Minister for Science, Technology, and Transport, outlined the government's vision for transforming Uttarakhand into a unique destination. He stated, "By leveraging modern technology to promote spirituality and religious tourism, the government is striving to transform the entire state of Uttarakhand into a truly unique and distinguished destination within the country."
The event also saw the presence of notable figures such as environmentalist and Padma Bhushan awardee Anil Joshi, forest department head Ranjan Mishra, and forestry expert MP Singh, adding depth to the discussions on environmental and developmental issues.
