Youth's Devotional Feat: Carrying Grandmother Up 575 Steps to Anjanadri Hill Temple
In the Koppal district of Karnataka, Anjanadri Hill in Anegondi stands as a revered site, believed by many to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. This steep hill has long served as both a pilgrimage destination and an adventurous challenge, with devotees climbing 575 steps to reach the temple perched at its summit.
A Historic and Challenging Pilgrimage Site
The journey to the top is not for the faint of heart. Over the years, some devotees have undertaken extraordinary feats, such as carrying heavy bags of rice weighing 105kg or jowar bags of 101kg up the hill. However, for many elderly and physically challenged individuals, the climb remains an insurmountable obstacle, forcing them to offer their prayers from a distance.
This physical barrier has often highlighted the need for better accessibility at this sacred location.
A Grandson's Heartwarming Act of Love
On a recent Friday evening, a youth named Ajay from Vijayanagara district performed an act that has captured hearts across the region. In a display of profound devotion and familial love, Ajay carried his 90-year-old grandmother all the way up the 575 steps to the Anjanadri Hill temple.
This was not an attempt to showcase physical strength or fulfill a personal vow. Instead, Ajay explained that his sole purpose was to grant his grandmother's long-standing wish: to have darshan of Anjaneyaswamy at the Anjanadri Hills.
Fulfillment of a Lifelong Dream
Upon reaching the temple and finally beholding the deity, Ajay's grandmother expressed immense gratitude, both to God and to her devoted grandson. The emotional moment was captured in photographs by some local youths, which quickly went viral on social media platforms.
Despite the attention, Ajay and his grandmother chose to maintain their privacy, declining to reveal their full identities before returning to their village in Vijayanagara district.
Renewed Calls for Improved Accessibility
This touching incident has reignited discussions about the longstanding demand for constructing a ropeway at Anjanadri Hill. Such infrastructure would make the temple accessible to all devotees, regardless of age or physical ability, ensuring that no one is denied the opportunity to visit this holy site.
The story of Ajay and his grandmother serves as a powerful reminder of the deep spiritual connections that drive pilgrimages, while also underscoring the practical needs of devotees in today's world.
