In a landmark move for northern India, the Varanasi Division of the North Eastern Railway (NER) is launching a premium branded clothing outlet at the station. This initiative marks the first such upscale retail presence at any railway station in the region, aiming to significantly upgrade passenger amenities and station aesthetics.

The decision to introduce a premium fashion store is part of a broader strategy to modernize railway stations and enhance the travel experience. According to Ashok Kumar, the division's spokesperson, the retail space was auctioned as per the new policy of the Railway Board. The contract was secured by Image Fashion Forever Pvt. Ltd., one of North India's leading retail chains. This move aligns Ballia with other progressive divisions like Guntakal, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, and Mysuru, which already host similar outlets.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashish Jain and Senior Commercial Manager Shekh Rahman were instrumental in finalizing the plan. DRM Jain emphasized the significance of the project, stating it will be a game-changer for the station. The outlet is expected to generate an estimated annual revenue of around Rs 4.4 lakh for the NER Varanasi Division, creating a new income stream while serving passengers.
