Dhanbad Celebrates International Women's Day with Empowering Scooty Rally

In a vibrant display of solidarity and purpose, more than 200 women gathered in Dhanbad on Monday to participate in a special scooty rally commemorating International Women's Day. The event, which commenced from the district collectorate, was dedicated to spreading a powerful message of women's empowerment while making a collective pledge to foster a drug-free and child marriage-free Jharkhand.

Official Flag-Off and Rally Route

The rally was formally flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, underscoring the administration's support for the initiative. Participants then embarked on a route that wound through the city center, ultimately concluding at Randhir Verma Chowk. This public procession served as a visible symbol of women's strength and community engagement.

District Initiatives for Women's Empowerment

During the event, Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan highlighted several key initiatives being implemented in the Dhanbad district to actively promote women's empowerment. A significant focus is on the formation of self-help groups designed to connect women with self-employment opportunities and provide essential skill training.

Specific training programs are already underway in areas like Belgaria, where groups of 80 women each are receiving instruction in various livelihood-enhancing activities. These include:

  • Mushroom cultivation techniques
  • Preparation of bamboo products
  • Creation of jute-based items

These efforts aim to equip women with practical skills that can lead to sustainable income and greater economic independence.

Voices of Support and Participation

SSP Prabhat Kumar emphasized the evolving role of women in society, stating that "women today are contributing equally alongside men in every field." The rally itself reflected this diversity of contribution, with participation from a wide cross-section of women professionals and community workers.

Attendees included:

  1. Women police personnel
  2. Supervisors
  3. Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs)
  4. Anganwadi workers
  5. Poshan Sakhis (nutrition friends)

One participant, Sandhya Kumari, shared her perspective on the event's impact. She noted that such programs significantly boost confidence and serve as a strong motivation for women to work harder and perform their duties more effectively in their respective roles.

The Dhanbad scooty rally stands as a testament to the growing movement for women's rights and social reform in Jharkhand, blending celebration with a clear call for actionable change in the community.
