SaiChi Label Showcase at Travancore Palace Celebrates Art of Pause Through Textiles
On a serene February evening at Travancore Palace, the atmosphere was deliberately calm and deeply reflective. Candles flickered softly, flowers adorned the space, and handwritten notes created an intimate environment that gently encouraged visitors to slow down and observe their surroundings with mindfulness.
Multi-Sensory Experience Centered on Stillness
Designer Maneesha Sharma presented her showcase under the SaiChi label as a comprehensive multi-sensory experience. The exhibition masterfully wove together textile art, poetic inspiration, and spatial design to center the powerful idea of pause. In stark contrast to the relentless pace of urban life, the entire presentation focused on cultivating stillness rather than creating mere spectacle.
The display featured exquisite hand-painted and intricately embroidered sarees that transcended traditional clothing to become profound artistic expressions. Sharma's creative process is fundamentally guided by feeling and intuition. She works intimately with material, color, and texture, allowing each piece to develop gradually through a meditative approach.
Creative Process Rooted in Reflection
Sharma describes her artistic methodology as one deeply rooted in reflection and heightened awareness, where the fabric itself actively guides the creative outcome. This organic approach results in pieces that feel alive with intention and meaning.
Collections such as Likhai drew inspiration from the timeless works of mystic poets like Kabir and Tukaram. Rather than attempting direct representation, Sharma translated their philosophical ideas into subtle form and tactile texture through her textile work.

Alongside these poetically inspired pieces were textile paintings that drew from the five classical elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space.
