Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Dairy Adulteration
In a significant food safety operation, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's health department conducted a surprise inspection at Vraj Dairy located in the Nana Chiloda area of Sardarnagar ward on Friday. The inspection revealed a troubling practice: the dairy unit was manufacturing analogue paneer while deliberately marketing and selling it as genuine milk paneer to consumers.
Immediate Action and Seizure
Upon discovering the fraudulent activity, civic officials took swift action. The manufacturing unit was immediately sealed to prevent further production of the adulterated product. Authorities also seized approximately 100 kilograms of the suspected analogue paneer that was found on the premises. This decisive move aims to protect public health and maintain food quality standards in the city.
Analogue paneer is typically made from vegetable fats, milk solids, and other additives rather than pure milk, making it cheaper to produce but nutritionally inferior to traditional milk paneer. Marketing such products as genuine milk paneer constitutes both consumer fraud and potential health risk.
Widespread Distribution Network
Investigations revealed that the adulterated paneer from Vraj Dairy was not just being sold locally but was reportedly being supplied to various cities across Gujarat. This indicates a concerning distribution network that could potentially affect consumers throughout the state. The municipal corporation is now tracking the supply chain to identify all affected outlets and ensure contaminated products are removed from the market.
Part of Broader Crackdown
Friday's action at Vraj Dairy is not an isolated incident but part of an ongoing, intensified crackdown on adulterated dairy products in Ahmedabad. Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the health department conducted similar operations at two other dairy units.
From Krishna Dairy in Gota, officials seized approximately 140 kilograms of suspected paneer. Simultaneously, from Radhe Dairy in Naroda, another 104 kilograms of questionable paneer was confiscated. This brings the total seized in just this week's operations to 344 kilograms of suspected adulterated dairy products.
Municipal Commitment to Food Safety
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has demonstrated a clear commitment to enforcing food safety regulations and protecting consumers from fraudulent practices. These coordinated inspections and seizures send a strong message to dairy operators about the consequences of violating food quality standards.
"The health department remains vigilant against adulteration practices that compromise public health," stated a municipal official familiar with the operations. "We will continue regular inspections and take strict action against any unit found violating food safety norms."
