Major Food Safety Operation in Dhanbad Uncovers Adulterated Paneer Consignment
In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, officials from the food safety department in Dhanbad executed a targeted raid on Thursday, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of adulterated dairy products. The operation led to the confiscation of 1,400 kilograms of paneer and six large containers of ghee, with an estimated market value of Rs 3 lakh. The consignment had been transported from Bihar via a bus and was intended for distribution to various local restaurants and eateries across the region.
Tip-Off Leads to Swift Action at Puja Talkies
Acting on a credible tip-off, a specialized team of food safety officers conducted surveillance and raided a bus bearing the registration number BR 21P 3632 after it made a stop at Puja Talkies. The officials, who had been strategically positioned at the location, swiftly surrounded the vehicle to prevent any escape or tampering with the evidence. The raid was spearheaded by District Food Safety Officer Dr. Raja Kumar, who personally conducted on-the-spot starch tests on multiple paneer samples retrieved from the bus.
All the paneer samples failed the preliminary starch test, confirming suspicions of adulteration and compromising food quality standards. To ensure the operation proceeded smoothly and securely, a robust police contingent, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dhirendra Baka, was deployed at the scene, providing necessary support and maintaining order during the inspection.
Legal Proceedings and Laboratory Analysis Underway
Following the seizure, Dr. Raja Kumar emphasized the seriousness of the violation, stating that samples of the confiscated paneer and ghee have been dispatched to the state food testing laboratory in Ranchi for comprehensive analysis. The detailed laboratory report will determine the exact nature and extent of adulteration, guiding subsequent legal actions. Authorities have affirmed that strict measures will be taken against the suppliers involved, with potential prosecution under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which mandates severe penalties for such offenses to safeguard public health.
