Interior design is experiencing a transformative shift, moving beyond aesthetics to prioritize practicality and efficiency. For years, the prevailing belief was that achieving a beautifully designed space required navigating complex processes, long timelines, and significant costs. However, this trade-off is now disappearing, according to Parth Parmar, Director of PARÉ Innovations.
Finish Quality and Easy Installation No Longer at Odds
The most significant development in the interiors industry is that high-quality finishes and straightforward installation are no longer conflicting goals. Parmar highlights realistic wooden ceiling systems that install cleanly, composite wall panels needing no additional treatment, and soffit systems that fit without specialist labor. Surfaces now look exactly as designed without months-long projects, benefiting residential interiors, commercial fit-outs, and large-scale builds alike.
Shorter installation timelines reduce materials on site, minimize waste, and decrease errors. When finishes require fewer additional layers, the entire process becomes leaner without compromising the outcome.
Versatile Surface Systems Redefine Design
Unnecessary complexity often arises from using too many different materials simultaneously. Parmar explains that when a single system can be used across walls, ceilings, and exteriors with consistent finish, the process becomes more efficient. Engineered exterior-grade wall panels bring the same quality to facades as interior surfaces, with added durability against weather and time. This versatility simplifies installation and influences design from the very beginning.
Good Design No Longer Reserved for High-Budget Projects
Features like curved panels, organic architectural shapes, and seamless lamination were once associated exclusively with high-end projects. The assumption was that budget constraints meant compromising on finish quality. However, simpler execution now allows more spaces to achieve the quality originally designed for them. A residential project with a modest timeline can match the surface quality of a luxury fit-out, and office renovations no longer need to choose between intentional design and staying on schedule.
"Considered interiors are no longer reserved for the few," Parmar asserts. The industry is reaching a point where building well and building efficiently are synonymous. For homeowners, this means more spaces realized as imagined. For an industry that long accepted complexity as the price of quality, this shift is long overdue.
