In a remarkably candid revelation, actress Gautami Kapoor has shared intimate details about a challenging period in her marriage to actor Ram Kapoor. The couple, married since 2003, faced a significant test when Ram found himself without work for an extended period, leading to a loss of emotional connection.
The Testing Phase: When the Spark Faded
Gautami recently described a phase of over two years as one of the most difficult in their relationship. This period occurred when Ram Kapoor was at home, not getting any acting opportunities, while Gautami had returned to television work. She acknowledged the inherent societal pressure on men to be providers, which made the situation particularly tough for her husband.
"He was at home for almost two and a half years, and that was really tough on him," Gautami stated in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. She could see his restlessness and anxiety as she left for work at 9 am and often returned only by 10 or 11 pm. The actress admitted she struggled to understand his situation at the time, seeing him "just at home doing nothing, waiting for that one opportunity."
Disconnect, Pay Gap, and Rediscovery
The imbalance was not new to their relationship. Reflecting on their early days shooting the popular TV show 'Ghar Ek Mandir' in 2000, Gautami revealed a stark pay disparity. She earned Rs 5000 per day, while Ram earned Rs 1500 per day, a difference attributed to her coming from a hit film like 'Bindhaast'.
The disconnect became severe before they had children. "I was completely disconnected from home and he was at home... I used to come home, sleep, and then go in the morning again, so there was no communication. We kind of lost that spark," she shared.
The dynamics began to change with the arrival of their children – daughter Sia in 2006 and son Aks in 2009. Ram's career picked up again, and their lives found a new balance. However, Gautami admits that motherhood made her forget her role as a wife, potentially leaving Ram feeling a vacuum.
A Renewed Chapter at 50
Now, with older children, the couple has joyfully rediscovered their bond. "Touchwood, we are back to what we used to be 20 years ago. It's amazing because we have kind of rediscovered this whole magic," a delighted Gautami exclaimed. They now laugh about the period of reversed roles and are enjoying companionship anew at the age of 50.
On the work front, Gautami was recently seen in Aryan Khan's series 'The Ba***ds Of Bollywood' and the film 'De De Pyaar De 2' alongside Ajay Devgn. Audiences can next see her in the upcoming 'Dhamaal 4'.
