What began as a simple Instagram notification escalated into a violent physical confrontation between two families in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, resulting in serious injuries and police intervention. The incident occurred in Domohani village, Salbari, under Dhupguri area, around 1 am on Saturday, November 17, 2025.
How a Simple Emoji Sparked Domestic Chaos
The trouble started when Rubina decided to check her husband Shahjahan's phone after he finished some work. While browsing his social media accounts, she made a discovery that would trigger a chain of violent events. Rubina allegedly found that her husband had reacted with a 'love' emoji to a photograph posted by his alleged former girlfriend.
Although Rubina was aware of this ex-girlfriend's existence when she married Shahjahan approximately a year and a half ago, seeing the affectionate reaction apparently crossed a line. The digital interaction quickly transformed into a real-world argument between the married couple.
The situation intensified when Rubina decided to read Shahjahan's chat history with his former partner. According to her subsequent claims, the messages revealed regular communication between Shahjahan and his ex-girlfriend, including what she described as "inappropriate messages."
From Digital Dispute to Physical Violence
After confronting her husband about the messages, the argument escalated further. Feeling overwhelmed, Rubina called her sister, Beauty Parveen, for assistance. The quarrel continued over the phone, with Beauty allegedly hearing her sister being assaulted during the call.
Concerned for her sister's safety, Beauty rushed to Shahjahan's family home to intervene. What she encountered there turned violent quickly. According to police reports and Beauty's account, Shahjahan and his family members allegedly attacked her when she tried to help her sister.
The assault turned particularly brutal when Rabeya, Shahjahan's sister, allegedly struck Beauty with a bucket and a shovel. The attack left Beauty with severe head injuries after she fell to the ground during the altercation. Police confirmed that Shahjahan's mother also sustained injuries during the scuffle that involved multiple family members from both sides.
Aftermath and Police Action
Local residents who witnessed or heard the commotion quickly responded to the violent scene. They arranged for both Beauty and Rubina to be admitted to Dhupguri Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment of their injuries, with Beauty's head injury being particularly serious.
Police authorities arrived at the location soon after being notified about the violent incident. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that a formal police complaint has been filed at the Dhupguri police station and that an official investigation has been initiated into the matter.
