Arunachal Deputy CM Calls for Community-Led Tourism Development

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has strongly emphasized that tourism development in the state must be fundamentally community-driven, with active participation from local stakeholders including tour operators, homestay owners, self-help groups, and entrepreneurs.

Sustainable Growth Through Community Ownership

Speaking during the inaugural session of the North East India Tour Operators Confederation (NEITC) convention held at Namsai on Monday, Deputy CM Mein articulated that sustainable tourism growth can only be achieved when local communities take ownership and actively contribute to the development process.

Highlighting the panel discussion theme on "Sustainable Tourism and Community Participation," Mein stressed the critical importance of promoting tourism that is clean, green, inclusive, and well-regulated throughout Arunachal Pradesh.

Quality Standards and Infrastructure Improvements

The deputy chief minister called for strict adherence to homestay guidelines to maintain quality standards and authenticity while preventing unregulated expansion that could compromise the state's unique tourism offerings.

Mein further underlined the significant improvements in connectivity and infrastructure achieved in recent years, which have substantially enhanced accessibility and opened new avenues for tourism growth. These developments have brought Arunachal Pradesh closer to both national and international tourism circuits, creating unprecedented opportunities for the state's tourism sector.

Preserving Cultural Heritage and Natural Resources

Mein emphasized the dual need to preserve and promote the state's rich cultural heritage alongside its abundant natural resources. He advocated for community and entrepreneur-led tourism models as the foundation for long-term sustainability in the sector.

Reiterating the government's commitment to tourism development, the deputy CM stated that Arunachal Pradesh possesses immense potential to emerge as a premier tourism destination, driven by responsible, inclusive, and sustainable development practices that benefit local communities directly.

Key Attendees at the Convention

The inaugural session was attended by several prominent figures including Ministry of Tourism North East Regional Director Rajendra Kumar Suman, NEITC President EB Blah, Convention Chairman Tsering Wange, Namsai Deputy Commissioner CR Khampa, and numerous tour operators from various North East Indian states.
