Bodh Gaya Set to Unveil Major 'Seven Wonders of the World' Theme Park

In a significant development aimed at enhancing tourism in the historic region of Bodh Gaya, a new theme park titled "Seven Wonders of the World" is currently under construction. This ambitious project is being developed by the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department (EFCCD) and is situated in the village of Silaunja, near Dharmaranya Vedi.

Project Details and Timeline

The theme park is spread across an expansive area of approximately 40 acres and is being built with an estimated investment of Rs 21 crore. According to officials, the construction is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by the end of May, marking a new milestone for the region's tourism infrastructure.

Shashi Kant Kumar, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Gaya division, provided insights into the park's features. He stated, "The park will showcase detailed replicas of the world's seven iconic wonders, allowing visitors to experience these global landmarks all in one convenient location. Among the planned attractions are scaled models of renowned sites such as the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza, Machu Picchu in Peru, and Petra in Jordan, along with other notable wonders."

Boosting Tourism and Economic Impact

The initiative is strategically designed to elevate Bodh Gaya's status as an international tourist destination. While the area is primarily celebrated as a key Buddhist pilgrimage site, the introduction of this theme park is anticipated to diversify the tourism offerings, attracting a broader audience beyond religious visitors.

"This project aims to enhance Bodh Gaya's appeal by providing a unique blend of cultural and recreational experiences," Kumar explained. "By incorporating global landmarks, we hope to draw both domestic and international tourists, thereby increasing footfall significantly."

Beyond tourism, the project is also projected to have a positive economic impact on the local community. It is likely to generate numerous employment opportunities for residents, contributing to the area's overall economic development and sustainability. Once operational, the park is poised to become a distinctive attraction in eastern India, setting it apart from other tourist spots in the region.

Broader Tourism Initiatives in Gaya

Detailing the department's comprehensive plans for Gaya, the DFO highlighted that the EFCCD, in collaboration with the tourism department, is actively working on several tourist-centric projects. These include:

  • Development of a ropeway at Gurpa hills to enhance accessibility and scenic views.
  • Infrastructure improvements at Dhungeshwari hills to support visitor experiences.
  • Establishment of nature interpretation centers to educate tourists about local ecology.
  • Creation of trekking trails in the hilly areas surrounding Gaya, promoting adventure tourism.

Additionally, the EFCCD has already inaugurated a butterfly rearing center-cum-park at Jayaprakash Udyan, located to the west of the world heritage site Mahabodhi Mahavihara. This center has quickly become a popular attraction for tourists and devotees, particularly Buddhist pilgrims visiting Bodh Gaya, adding to the region's diverse appeal.

With these concerted efforts, Bodh Gaya is set to transform into a multifaceted tourist hub, blending its rich spiritual heritage with modern recreational facilities to cater to a global audience.
