A significant initiative to enhance the skills of hospitality staff took place in Coimbatore, where a specialized training program was conducted for housekeeping professionals from the region.
Boosting Skills for the Hospitality Sector
Approximately 75 housekeeping professionals representing 25 hotels from Coimbatore, Valparai, and Pollachi participated in a capacity-building training program held on a recent Tuesday. The event was a collaborative effort organized by the Ministry of Tourism’s Southern Regional Office, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department’s Coimbatore office, and the SKAL International Coimbatore chapter.
Focus on Sustainable and Innovative Practices
In his address, D Venkatesan, the Regional Director (South) of the Ministry of Tourism, highlighted the critical role of sustainable housekeeping practices. He emphasized that adopting these methods is key to increasing guest satisfaction and keeping pace with the evolving trends within the global hospitality industry.
The comprehensive program featured expert-led sessions that delved into best practices in housekeeping. Participants were introduced to a range of topics, including:

- Practical, hands-on demonstrations
- Internationally recognized operational standards
Future Workshops Across Southern India
Looking ahead, the India Tourism - Chennai (Southern Regional Office) has announced plans to organize similar workshops focused on hospitality in other cities across South India. These future programs will be conducted in partnership with various industry bodies and academic institutions, aiming to uplift the service standards of the hospitality sector throughout the region.
