Goa Lifeguards Rescue 6 Tourists on New Year's Day

Goa's popular beaches, teeming with visitors for New Year celebrations, became the site of multiple rescue operations on the first day of 2024. Lifesavers from Drishti Marine were called into action to assist at least six individuals who faced emergencies along the state's coastline.

Multiple Incidents Across Popular Beaches

The rescue missions unfolded at several locations. At Mobor beach, a 53-year-old man from England was stung by a stingray while swimming a short distance from the shore. The lifeguards on duty provided him with immediate first aid for the injury before handing him over to emergency medical services for further care.

In a separate incident at the Arambol sweet-water lake, a 19-year-old girl from Maharashtra was rescued after she began struggling to swim and found herself in difficulty.

Jet Ski Rescues and First Aid Interventions

The lifeguards' quick response was also critical in saving two men in their mid-20s, hailing from Karnataka, who were floundering in the water while swimming. Lifesaver Umesh Madaikar used a jet ski to successfully pull them to safety. On the same beach, a 20-year-old male tourist from Bihar was also rescued after he was unable to swim back to the shore on his own.

In another alarming case, a 10-year-old boy from Pune sustained a deep cut on his right leg after stepping on a piece of broken glass while swimming. Lifeguards administered prompt first aid at the lifesaver tower located on the beach to treat the wound.

A Reminder for Beach Safety

These series of incidents on a single day highlight the risks present even during festive fun at the beach. The actions of Drishti Marine's trained personnel prevented potential tragedies, underscoring the importance of swimming in designated safe zones, heeding lifeguard warnings, and being aware of one's swimming capabilities, especially when beaches are crowded. The organization continues to play a vital role in ensuring visitor safety along Goa's iconic coastline.
