Mega Events in Goa Deliver Major Tourism Boost, Association Reports

Panaji: The tourism industry in Goa experienced a substantial uplift last month, driven by two major international events held in the coastal state. According to the Trade and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), the India Energy Week and the World Legends Pro T20 League significantly boosted tourism fortunes during their hosting period.

Strong Growth Across Tourism Segments

TTAG President Jack Sukhija confirmed in an official statement that certain segments of the tourism sector performed exceptionally well, registering strong growth figures. "Small hotels have had a much better month with a decent rebound," Sukhija noted, highlighting the positive impact on accommodation providers throughout the state.

Government Efforts Applauded for Event Hosting

Sukhija publicly applauded government efforts to bring mega events to Goa, stating that these initiatives provide a major flip to the tourism industry. "The major flip to the tourism industry comes from meeting incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), mega events, and festivals," the TTAG president explained.

He further emphasized appreciation for the tourism minister's efforts, adding, "It is imperative that this momentum be built on" to sustain the positive trajectory for Goa's tourism sector.

Association Calls for Resolution of Pending Issues

While celebrating the success of recent events, the TTAG also urged the government to address several long-pending issues that could further enhance Goa's tourism infrastructure:

  • Introduction of technology in transport systems
  • Implementation of a single-window document push for events
  • Development of more efficient waste management solutions

The association's statement underscores how strategic event hosting can transform tourism fortunes, particularly benefiting smaller accommodation providers while creating opportunities for broader economic growth across the state.
