In a significant boost to Goa's international air connectivity, direct scheduled flights between the coastal state and Uzbekistan have officially resumed. The first commercial flight operated by Uzbekistan Airways touched down at Goa's Manohar International Airport in Mopa, marking the restart of this key travel link.
Flight Details and Schedule
The inaugural flight arrived carrying 121 passengers, signalling strong interest in the route. According to officials from Uzbekistan Airways, the service will operate twice a week, with flights scheduled for every Wednesday and Sunday. The airline is deploying its modern Airbus A320 Neo aircraft for this route, offering enhanced comfort and efficiency for travellers.
Anish Arya, the India representative for Uzbekistan Airways, confirmed that the flights will continue throughout the current winter season. The service is slated to run until February 25 this year, providing a consistent travel option for several months.
A Boost for Goa's Tourism and Connectivity
The resumption has been warmly welcomed by Goa's tourism authorities, who see it as a reaffirmation of the state's global appeal. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte stated that the reinstated connection strengthens Goa's international links and adds momentum to efforts for expanding into new global markets.
"This renewed link opens fresh opportunities for travel and engagement between our destinations, making travel between our regions even more seamless," Khaunte said. He emphasised that the direct flights would facilitate easier cultural and tourist exchange.
Building Trust and Showcasing Goa's Culture
Echoing the minister's sentiments, Tourism Director Kedar Naik highlighted that the renewed air connection reflects the trust global partners place in Goa's tourism potential. He pointed out that it strengthens outreach efforts and allows visitors from Uzbekistan to experience Goa's rich offerings with greater convenience.
"It allows visitors from Uzbekistan to experience Goa's culture, festivals, and unique offerings with greater ease," Naik explained. The direct flight eliminates the need for layovers, making Goa a more accessible and attractive destination for Uzbek tourists seeking its famous beaches, heritage, and cuisine.
The move is a strategic step in enhancing Goa's profile as a premier international tourist destination, promising economic benefits and fostering stronger people-to-people ties between India and Uzbekistan.
