Goa Government Launches Major Restoration Project for Pernem Ponds to Boost Tourism

The government of Goa has initiated a significant restoration and reclamation project targeting two key ponds in the Pernem region—Paliem and Korgao. This initiative is designed to enhance local tourism and improve recreational infrastructure for the community.

Inauguration of Restored Paliem Pond After 30 Years of Neglect

Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar recently inaugurated the restored Paliem pond, a site that had been neglected for over three decades. The project, with a budget of Rs 14 lakh, aims to transform these water bodies into serene and accessible spaces, particularly benefiting residents and senior citizens.

During the inauguration, Arolkar was joined by sarpanch Sneha Gawandi and other local officials. He emphasized that the development will introduce modern amenities while carefully preserving the natural aesthetics of the area.

Similar Efforts at Korgao Pond and Future Plans for Palaye Plateau

In a parallel effort, MLA Praveen Arlekar and local panchayat members inaugurated repair works at the Korgao pond, ensuring both ponds receive comprehensive attention. Additionally, officials are exploring plans to develop the scenic Palaye plateau into a tourist destination by improving access and infrastructure.

This project represents a strategic move to leverage Goa's natural resources for sustainable tourism growth, providing new recreational opportunities and boosting the local economy.
