Lucknow's Gomti River Cruise to Launch in July, Boosting River Tourism

Lucknow is set to introduce a cruise service on the Gomti River starting in July, aimed at promoting river-based tourism in the city. This initiative is expected to enhance the local tourism landscape by offering a unique recreational experience along the riverfront.

Each ride is projected to last between 30 to 45 minutes, covering a fixed stretch from Hanuman Setu to Gomti Barrage. This route offers scenic views of the river and its surroundings, making it an attractive option for both locals and tourists.

Operational Management and Passenger Information

A team comprising a captain and five crew members will manage the cruise operations. During the ride, announcements will be made through a public address system, providing passengers with basic information about the cruise and river ecology. This educational component aims to raise awareness about the local environment while enhancing the overall experience.

Project Funding and Development

Project in-charges Pankaj Bhagat and Gyan Mani Tripathi stated that the project will cost Rs 20 crore and is planned under a 30-year lease arrangement, with maintenance scheduled every five years. They highlighted that the cruise ship is designed to operate in as little as four feet of water, ensuring flexibility in various river conditions.

LDA officials confirmed that the project will be fully funded by a Kolkata-based private firm, which will pay Rs 16 lakh annually as revenue. LDA vice-chairperson Prathmesh Kumar emphasized that the facility is being developed to add a new attraction along the Gomti riverfront and create opportunities for tourism-linked activities in the area.

Impact on Local Tourism

The introduction of the Gomti River cruise is expected to significantly boost tourism in Lucknow by offering a novel recreational option. It aligns with broader efforts to enhance the city's appeal as a tourist destination, potentially attracting more visitors and supporting local businesses through increased tourism-related activities.
