Himachal Food Fest Postponed to November Due to Multiple Factors

Himalayan Food Festival 'Swaad Pahadaan Da' Rescheduled to November Amid External Pressures

The highly anticipated Himalayan Food Festival, known as 'Swaad Pahadaan Da', has been officially postponed from its original schedule next month to November. The event, organized by the Bir Hotel and Restaurant Association (BHASA), was set to showcase the rich culinary heritage of Himachal Pradesh and other Himalayan regions but has been deferred due to a confluence of challenging circumstances.

Multiple Factors Lead to Postponement Decision

Satish Abrol, President of the Bir Hotel and Restaurant Association, addressed the media in Palampur to explain the decision. He cited three primary reasons for the postponement:

  • Ongoing geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel, which have created an unstable international environment.
  • Upcoming panchayat elections in Himachal Pradesh, which are expected to divert local attention and resources.
  • Uncertain supply of LPG cylinders across the country, posing logistical challenges for a large-scale culinary event.

Abrol emphasized that in the current situation, organizing such a significant festival was not feasible, leading to the rescheduling.

New Dates and Festival Highlights

The week-long festival is now slated to take place in the third week of November, with specific dates from November 21 to 23 earmarked for a special food competition. This competition will focus on women's empowerment and offer cash rewards worth lakhs of rupees, aiming to highlight and support female culinary talent in the region.

Festival Objectives and Expanded Offerings

The core aim of the Himalayan Food Festival remains to display the diverse traditional cuisines of Himachal Pradesh and other Himalayan areas on a unified platform. The event is designed to attract both domestic and international tourists, boosting regional tourism and cultural exchange.

Beyond the food competition, the festival will feature:

  1. Interactive culinary workshops where visitors can learn to prepare authentic local dishes, taking home recipes as souvenirs.
  2. Cultural performances by local and guest artistes during evening programs, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
  3. Special tourism packages offered through hotels and restaurants in the Bir-Billing region, encouraging extended stays and exploration.

Support and Future Prospects

The association has confirmed receiving support from the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department, which could help establish the festival as an annual event. This partnership is expected to significantly enhance tourism in the Bir-Billing area, promoting economic growth and cultural preservation. Abrol expressed optimism that the November schedule will provide a more stable environment for a successful and impactful festival.
