Indian Railways Unveils Summer Special Tourist Train to Northeast India

In a significant boost to domestic tourism, Indian Railways, in collaboration with South Star Rail and Tour Times, has announced the launch of a Summer Special Tourist Train to Northeast India. This initiative, operating under the Bharat Gaurav Train scheme, marks India's first public-private partnership tourist train, offering an immersive 14-day journey commencing on April 25.

Comprehensive Tour Packages and Itinerary

The specially designed train will provide three distinct tour packages within a single journey, catering to diverse traveler preferences. The itinerary includes stops in Visakhapatnam and Kolkata, ensuring a rich cultural and scenic experience across the country.

Vignesh, director of South Star Rail and Tour Times, highlighted the high demand from Mangaluru residents. To accommodate this, passengers from Mangaluru will receive complimentary transfers to Palakkad, Ottapalam, or Thrissur, based on their choice, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Detailed Package Offerings

The train covers some of India's most breathtaking destinations:

  • Package 1: Gangtok and Darjeeling – Explore the serene hill stations of Sikkim and West Bengal.
  • Package 2: Northeastern Splendours – Visit Guwahati, Shillong, Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong, and Dawki, showcasing the region's natural beauty.
  • Package 3: Bhutan Delights – An international tour covering Thimphu, Punakha, Paro, and Chele La Pass in Bhutan.

Proven Track Record and Operational Details

South Star Rail and Tour Times have a strong operational history, having successfully conducted 53 departures, covering over 2.9 lakh rail kilometers and serving 24,402 pilgrims and tourists. The train will depart from Madurai, with convenient boarding points across Kerala, ensuring wide accessibility.

Fare Structure Across Travel Classes

The tour offers four travel classes to suit various budgets:

  1. Sleeper Class
  2. Third AC
  3. Second AC
  4. First AC

Fares for the Darjeeling & Gangtok package are priced at Rs 45,950 (sleeper), Rs 53,300 (third AC), Rs 66,500 (second AC), and Rs 72,100 (first AC). The Northeastern Splendours package costs Rs 59,350, Rs 64,350, Rs 74,450, and Rs 79,950 respectively. The Bhutan Delights package is available for Rs 76,950 (sleeper), Rs 83,500 (third AC), Rs 94,950 (second AC), and Rs 97,900 (first AC).

Modern Amenities and Inclusions

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the train features a public announcement and entertainment system, onboard tour managers, dedicated coach security, and unlimited South Indian meals served both onboard and off-board. The composition includes a first AC coach, three second AC coaches, five third AC coaches, two sleeper class coaches, and a pantry car, with a total capacity of 650 passengers.

The package comprehensively covers hotel stays, sightseeing, transfers, and travel insurance, ensuring a hassle-free and comfortable journey. Additionally, travelers are eligible for LTC/LFC benefits, adding financial incentives.

Unlike regular trains, this special tourist train is not available for booking on the IRCTC website.
