As dense winter fog continues to disrupt air travel across northern India, budget carrier IndiGo has issued fresh travel advisories for passengers flying on Tuesday, December 19. The airline has warned of possible delays and schedule changes primarily affecting its operations in Varanasi and the national capital, Delhi, due to anticipated low visibility conditions.
Advisory Details for Varanasi and Delhi
In an advisory shared late on Wednesday night, IndiGo stated that foggy conditions over Varanasi are expected to persist till Thursday, which will majorly impact flight schedules. The airline is proactively monitoring the weather situation, emphasizing that passenger safety is its top priority.
On its official X handle (formerly Twitter), IndiGo posted: “Low visibility and fog conditions over Varanasi may continue to impact flight schedules tomorrow. We are proactively monitoring weather developments and aligning our operations to ensure safety remains the highest priority.”
In a separate update issued around 11 PM, the airline also highlighted that Delhi is expected to experience fluctuating visibility during the early hours of December 19. The advisory noted, “Winter has a way of slowing things down. Tomorrow, visibility in #Delhi may vary again during the early hours, which could gently affect the flow of flight movements across parts of the network.”
Instructions for Passengers and Airline Preparedness
IndiGo has strongly advised passengers travelling to or from Varanasi and those with early morning flights from Delhi to stay updated on their flight status before heading to the airport. The airline specifically recommends that flyers allow extra time for their journey to the airport, as fog can significantly slow down road traffic as well.
To avoid last-minute confusion, passengers should check their flight status exclusively on the airline’s official website or flight status page. IndiGo has assured that its teams across the network are fully prepared to assist customers. Staff are actively coordinating departures and managing any potential waiting times with care and clear communication.
Looking Ahead: A Hopeful Note
While acknowledging the disruptions, IndiGo struck a hopeful note, pointing out that visibility conditions typically improve as the morning progresses. The advisory added, “As the morning settles in, conditions usually ease, and we remain focused on getting you on your way as smoothly as possible.”
Such fog and weather-related advisories have become a common feature during the peak winter months of December and January across North India, often leading to widespread delays and cancellations. Passengers scheduled to fly on December 19 are urged to plan ahead, stay alert to updates, and factor in additional time for their travel to ensure a less stressful experience.
