IRCTC's Swift Action Saves Elderly Tourist in Vietnam Medical Emergency

In a demonstration of prompt crisis management, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) extended critical emergency assistance to a 75-year-old passenger who developed sudden health complications while on a tour to Vietnam. The incident underscores IRCTC's commitment to passenger safety and well-being during international travels.

Immediate Hospitalization and Medical Coordination

The tourist, whose identity has not been disclosed, required urgent medical attention abroad. IRCTC's tour management team acted swiftly, facilitating his immediate admission to Tam Anh Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. He remained under close medical supervision for two full days, ensuring he received the necessary care during this critical period.

Gaurav Jha, IRCTC's Group General Manager for the west zone, elaborated on the response: "Our team coordinated seamlessly with hospital authorities to ensure proper treatment and provided comprehensive logistical support throughout the hospitalization. After his condition stabilized and attending doctors declared him fit for travel, the passenger safely returned to India on February 8, 2026."

Reflecting IRCTC's 24/7 Assistance Policy

Officials emphasized that this prompt response is a direct reflection of IRCTC's established policy of offering round-the-clock assistance and robust medical support to all passengers traveling on its domestic and international tour packages. This incident highlights the corporation's preparedness to handle unforeseen emergencies, ensuring traveler security and peace of mind.

Largest International MICE Tour Successfully Executed

In a related development, IRCTC West Zone recently marked a significant achievement by executing its largest international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tour. This involved organizing an extensive seven-night, eight-day trip to Vietnam for 162 ONGC veterans, in collaboration with the Anubhooti Group from Kharghar.

The project, which generated substantial revenue of Rs 1.95 crore, required nearly two months of meticulous planning. Key activities included:

  • Destination scouting and selection
  • Vendor coordination and negotiations
  • Comprehensive logistics management

The group was strategically divided into two batches for smoother operations: 106 guests departed on February 2, 2026, and 56 guests followed on February 4, 2026. Each batch was accompanied by designated tour managers to oversee the journey.

Virtual Command Centre and Itinerary Highlights

To ensure real-time monitoring and efficient management across different time zones, IRCTC established a virtual command centre. This technological initiative allowed for continuous oversight and quick resolution of any issues during the tour.

The itinerary was thoughtfully curated, covering key attractions in Ho Chi Minh City and featuring an overnight cruise at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Halong Bay. This blend of urban exploration and natural beauty provided a memorable experience for all participants.

This successful MICE tour, coupled with the emergency medical response, showcases IRCTC's expanding capabilities in international tourism and its unwavering dedication to passenger care, setting a high standard for travel operators in India.
