In a significant push to elevate Visakhapatnam's tourism profile, local MP M Sribharat has declared the NDA government's commitment to transform Kailasagiri into a world-class destination. The announcement came during the first field inspection by a newly formed development committee, which outlined a comprehensive, long-term vision for the iconic hilltop.
First Inspection Sets the Agenda for Global Standards
The newly constituted 16-member joint action committee, chaired by VMRDA Commissioner N Tej Bharat, conducted its inaugural on-ground review this Tuesday. MP M Sribharat, participating as a permanent special invitee, led discussions aimed at systematic development. The core resolution was to draft a master development plan spanning the next 30 years, ensuring sustainable growth for the popular site.
Major Projects and Infrastructure Overhaul
A highlight of the proposed developments is the construction of a majestic 55-foot-tall Trishul, inspired by the symbols of Lord Shiva, with an estimated budget of Rs 1.5 crore. The committee's review covered critical areas for improvement:
- Development of new roads and merging points on the hilltop.
- Creation of an alternative access road to ease congestion.
- Substantial expansion of parking facilities at the foothills.
- Introduction of free shuttle buses and a greater fleet of battery-operated vehicles for eco-friendly transport up the hill.
VMRDA Commissioner N Tej Bharat emphasized the plan to ferry tourists from the foothills to the summit using e-buses and other green vehicles, reducing traffic and pollution.
Enhancing Visitor Experience and Safety
The meeting also deliberated on several proposals to boost tourist amenities and safety. Key points included enhancing existing attractions, establishing proper canteen facilities, and introducing a new toy train project. These initiatives are designed to improve the overall visitor experience while managing the site's environmental footprint. The attendance of Visakhapatnam East MLA V Ramakrishna Babu and senior VMRDA officials underscored the collaborative effort behind this ambitious project.
The concerted plan signals a transformative phase for Kailasagiri, aiming to position it not just as a local attraction but as a sustainable, globally recognizable tourism destination for decades to come.
