Kangra District Administration Eases Trekking Restrictions for Daytime Activities
The Kangra district administration has announced a significant relaxation in trekking regulations, allowing daytime access to three popular mountain routes. This move aims to bolster tourism while prioritizing public safety in the scenic region of Himachal Pradesh.
Daytime Trekking Permitted on Select Routes
Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa stated on Tuesday that trekking will now be permitted on the Kareri Lake trek, Triund trek, and Adi Himani Chamunda trek exclusively during daylight hours. The allowed timeframe spans from sunrise to sunset, providing ample opportunity for enthusiasts to explore these natural wonders.
Key Changes in Regulations:
- Prior intimation forms previously required at local police stations for these routes have been withdrawn, simplifying the process for trekkers.
- Night trekking on all three routes remains strictly prohibited to mitigate risks associated with low visibility and adverse conditions.
Safety Measures and Ongoing Restrictions
Bairwa emphasized that this decision was carefully crafted to ensure public safety while maintaining a balanced approach to tourism activities. He highlighted that, apart from the three specified routes, earlier restrictions on trekking in areas above 3,000 metres will continue to be enforced.
Additional Safety Protocols:
- In case the India Meteorological Department issues any weather warnings or alerts, trekking activities will be suspended immediately to prevent accidents.
- Violations of the order will result in legal action against both the trekker and the guide under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
- The administration may recommend suspension or cancellation of the guide's licence for non-compliance, underscoring the importance of adherence to safety guidelines.
