Kochi-Gulf Flight Operations Slowly Return to Normal Amid Regional Unrest
Flight services connecting Gulf countries to Kochi are gradually resuming normal operations, with six arrivals and eight departures scheduled for Wednesday. The primary route currently active involves flights to and from Muscat, indicating a cautious restoration of air travel links in the region.
Persistent Passenger Difficulties Despite Flight Resumption
However, travel and tour operators report that passengers continue to encounter significant challenges in securing confirmed tickets. Paulose K Mathew, a managing committee member of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFA), highlighted ongoing issues: "A major Indian airline operator persists in canceling services after passengers have already booked tickets. This cancellation pattern affects not only the Gulf sector but also extends to other destinations in Western countries." This situation underscores the lingering disruptions in travel logistics despite the partial restoration of flight schedules.
NORKA Mobilizes Comprehensive Support Network for Expatriates
In response to the regional crisis, the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) department has established six specialized help groups dedicated to Gulf countries. These groups aim to provide coordinated assistance to expatriate Keralites facing difficulties. The composition of these support teams is comprehensive and includes:
- Representatives from the NORKA department and NORKA Roots
- Members of the Loka Kerala Sabha from respective Gulf countries
- Volunteers from Indian embassies
- Representatives from NORKA-approved expatriate organizations
- Social workers and prominent community individuals
High-Level Review of Regional Situation and Assistance Mechanisms
Recently, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan convened an online meeting with Loka Kerala Sabha representatives from Gulf nations. This was followed by a detailed review meeting at the NORKA center that assessed multiple critical aspects:
- The current security and operational situation in the Gulf region
- Information received through various help desks regarding expatriate needs
- Urgent assistance requirements identified through multiple channels
The evaluation specifically examined the performance of the specially formed NORKA regional vigilance coordination team and the activities of the six NORKA help groups. Additionally, officials reviewed the volume and nature of calls and interventions received at three key support centers: the NORKA help desk, the Delhi Kerala House help desk, and the NORKA center control room. This comprehensive assessment aims to streamline assistance mechanisms for Keralites affected by the ongoing regional tensions.
