In preparation for the massive Magh Mela congregation, Indian Railways has announced significant temporary changes to train operations affecting the New Delhi route and Prayagraj. Several important trains will be diverted to run from Subedarganj station instead of Prayagraj Junction for over a month and a half.
Key Trains Diverted to Subedarganj Station
The operational shift will impact three major express trains for an extended period. From January 2 to February 17, the Prayagraj Express, the Lalgarh Express, and the Humsafar Express will originate and terminate at Subedarganj.
According to the detailed revised schedule, Train No. 12417 Prayagraj Express will now depart from Subedarganj at 10:15 PM. Similarly, Train No. 12403 Prayagraj–Lalgarh Express will leave its new originating station at 11:15 PM, with its return service scheduled to arrive at 4:40 AM.
The Anand Vihar Terminal–Prayagraj Humsafar Express (Train No. 22438) will also operate from Subedarganj, but for a shorter window between January 12 and January 25. Its departure is set for 12:30 AM, with arrival at 6:15 AM.
Midnight Departures and Long-Distance Train Halts
Railway officials provided an important clarification regarding departure times. Due to the terminal changes, some trains are scheduled to depart just after midnight. The effective date of departure will be adjusted accordingly. For example, Train No. 12275, scheduled on January 16, will actually depart at 12:30 AM on January 17.
In addition to the rerouted trains, several prominent long-distance trains will make temporary halts at Subedarganj station instead of Prayagraj Junction throughout the mela period. This list includes:
- North East Express (12506/05)
- Barmer–Howrah Superfast Express (12324/23)
- Anand Vihar Terminal–Jogbani Express (12488/87)
- New Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (12424/23)
- New Delhi–Howrah Rajdhani Express (12306/05)
- New Delhi–Rajendranagar Rajdhani Express (12310/09)
- Train No. 12301 Rajdhani Express
Platform Changes at Key Prayagraj Stations
The Railways has also implemented temporary platform reassignments at two major stations in the city to manage the expected passenger surge. From January 2 to February 17, the platforms for 38 trains at Prayagraj Junction have been altered. Furthermore, 9 trains at Prayagraj Chheoki station will also use different platforms during this period.
Authorities have strongly advised all passengers traveling to or from Prayagraj during the Magh Mela to check the updated schedules and platform information before starting their journey. These measures are part of the annual logistical planning to ensure smooth travel for the millions of devotees expected to attend the religious gathering while maintaining regular rail services.
