Mandya's Hosabudanur Festival Returns with Helicopter Tourism for 2025 Edition

Preparations are in full swing for the grand annual festival of Sri Kashi Vishwanatha and Sri Anantapadmanabha Swamy at Hosabudanur in Mandya taluk, with this year's celebrations set to introduce an exciting new feature: heli tourism. This unique initiative is expected to significantly enhance the festival's appeal and offer devotees and tourists an unforgettable aerial experience.

Festival Background and Revival

The Budanur Festival was initiated in 2024 by Mandya MLA P Ravikumar Ganiga with the aim of promoting local tourism and heritage. In its inaugural year, the festival received an excellent response, attracting large crowds with its rich cultural offerings. Key highlights included:

  • Ganga Arati ceremonies
  • Musical evenings featuring local artists
  • Mass dance performances
  • Vibrant traditional processions

Unfortunately, the festival could not be celebrated last year due to scheduling conflicts with the All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. It is now scheduled to return in a grand format during February 21 and 22, 2025, with expanded offerings.

Historical Significance and New Attractions

The festival revolves around the historic 13th-century Sri Kashi Vishwanatha and Sri Anantapadmanabha Swamy temples, which were built during the reign of Hoysala king Veera Ballala II. These architectural marvels form the spiritual core of the celebrations.

Adding to the grandeur this year, helicopter joyrides are planned from February 20 to 22. This innovative addition will enable visitors to enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the scenic surroundings and the town, though participants should note that this experience will be available for a fee.

Infrastructure and Planning

At the behest of MLA P Ravikumar Ganiga, officials from the public works department conducted a thorough reconnaissance of the area to identify suitable locations for the helipad. Several areas are being considered to ensure safe and smooth operations, including:

  1. Areas near Hosabudanur
  2. Ummadahalli region
  3. Srinivasapura Gate vicinity

The careful selection of helipad locations reflects the organizers' commitment to safety while maximizing the tourism potential of this innovative addition.

Tourism Impact and Expectations

The introduction of heli tourism represents a significant step forward in promoting Mandya's cultural heritage and natural beauty. This initiative is expected to:

  • Attract more tourists to the region
  • Provide a unique perspective on the festival and surrounding landscape
  • Boost local economy through increased visitor spending
  • Create memorable experiences for both devotees and tourists

As preparations continue, anticipation builds for what promises to be the most spectacular edition yet of this important cultural celebration in Karnataka's Mandya district.
