Odisha Unveils Major Tourism Infrastructure Projects in Puri
In a significant boost to the state's tourism sector, Odisha's Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, Pravati Parida, announced on Sunday the development of a Rs 1,000 crore cruise terminal in Puri. The announcement was made during the 40th foundation day celebration of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha, where Parida served as the chief guest.
Comprehensive Tourism-Led Urban Development Plan
Parida revealed that alongside the cruise terminal, a comprehensive tourism city will be developed over 1,500 acres in the Sipasarubali area of Puri district. This ambitious project aims to foster tourism-led urban growth, transforming the region into a major hub for visitors and economic activity.
"If we move forward without fear and focus on the future, we will certainly progress. The tourism landscape is expanding rapidly and we must keep pace with it," Parida stated, emphasizing the state's commitment to leveraging its immense tourism potential.
Enhancing Coastal Tourism with Blue Flag Beaches
Further strengthening Odisha's coastal tourism profile, the minister announced plans to develop three Blue Flag beaches between Nuanai and Astaranga. The Blue Flag certification is an internationally recognized eco-label awarded to beaches that meet high standards of environmental management, safety, and amenities.
The key initiatives announced include:
- Construction of a state-of-the-art cruise terminal in Puri with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
- Development of a 1,500-acre tourism city in Sipasarubali to drive urban growth.
- Establishment of three Blue Flag beaches along the Odisha coast to enhance eco-tourism.
These projects are expected to significantly boost tourism infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and position Odisha as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers. The announcements underscore the state government's strategic focus on harnessing tourism as a key driver of economic development and urban transformation.
