Passengers in Pune have reached a breaking point with IndiGo airline, citing a relentless pattern of operational failures that are causing severe travel disruptions. A local delegation from the Lohegaon and Dhanori areas took their grievances directly to the Pune Airport Director on Saturday, demanding urgent intervention.
Delegation Issues Ultimatum to Airline and Authorities
The delegation, spearheaded by Shiv Sena city coordinator Anand Goyal and supported by numerous affected residents, presented a formal memorandum. They called for immediate corrective measures from IndiGo to streamline its operations. The group has set a strict deadline, seeking concrete answers and improvements within two days.
Failure to see substantial progress, they warned, will result in a public demonstration at the IndiGo counters within Pune Airport. This action underscores the escalating unrest among travelers who are tired of bearing the brunt of the airline's inconsistent service.
Passengers Stranded and Financially Burdened
The core complaints outlined in the memorandum highlight significant passenger distress. Travelers are suffering due to abrupt flight cancellations and sudden, poorly communicated route changes, leading to extensive delays. Anand Goyal emphasized the financial toll, stating that last-minute disruptions leave passengers stranded, forcing many to buy alternate tickets at exorbitant prices.
"While those with financial means somehow manage, others are left with no viable options," Goyal explained, painting a picture of inequality in how passengers cope with the chaos. The memorandum also points to broader issues of mismanagement and alleges rude behaviour by airline staff amidst the operational turmoil, adding to the overall negative customer experience.
Airport Authorities Pressed for Swift Resolution
The delegation has formally requested the airport authorities to take cognizance of the crisis and ensure a swift resolution. By submitting the memorandum directly to the Airport Director, the group aims to escalate the matter beyond customer service channels, applying institutional pressure on IndiGo to address its operational shortcomings.
The clock is now ticking for IndiGo. The airline must respond effectively to the concerns raised by Pune's flying community or face the prospect of organized public protest at its own airport hub, a scenario that could further damage its reputation in a key market.
