Uttarkashi: Six homestays being developed in the border village of Jadung under the Centre's Vibrant Villages Programme are expected to be completed by August, officials announced on Tuesday. Construction has reached the final stage, marking a significant step in the region's development.
Project Details and Costs
The homestays are being created by renovating houses that existed before the 1962 India-China war. Jadung was evacuated during the conflict, and the government is now working to resettle the village and promote tourism. The total cost for the first phase of six homestays is Rs 3.65 crore, according to Sachin Rawat, junior engineer of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. Each homestay will feature two floors, with the owner residing on the ground floor and tourist accommodations on the first floor.
Second Phase and Labor Efforts
In the second phase, work has begun on eight additional homestays at a cost of Rs 4.90 crore. Rawat noted that excavation is currently underway and will require more time. Approximately 40 laborers are working on the first phase, while 20 are engaged in the second phase. Temporary tin sheds have been set up in Jadung to house the workers.
Officials also revealed that the district administration has sought permission from the Centre to allow inner line permits for operating the homestays. Currently, visitors must obtain permission from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's office to enter the area, and overnight stays are not permitted.
