Vijayawada-Singapore Flights See Strong Demand After 6-Year Hiatus
Vijayawada-Singapore Route Sees Steady Passenger Traffic

The revival of direct international air connectivity between Vijayawada and Singapore has been met with a positive and steady response from passengers, according to official data. The service, which resumed on November 15, 2025 after a gap of six years, has shown consistent demand in its initial weeks of operation.

Steady Inbound Traffic and Holiday Peaks

Passenger data from Vijayawada International Airport reveals that the Singapore to Vijayawada arrival flights maintained strong occupancy. The number of passengers per flight generally varied between 120 and 180. Notable peaks were observed on November 29, with 188 passengers, and December 6, with 181 passengers, indicating robust inbound travel interest.

This healthy trend continued through the latter part of December, aligning with the Christmas and year-end holiday season. The consistent figures suggest a solid base of travellers visiting Andhra Pradesh's capital region from Singapore.

Outbound Traffic Shows Upward Trend

On the return leg, the Vijayawada to Singapore departures started moderately in the second half of November but gained significant momentum from mid-December. Passenger numbers repeatedly crossed the 100-mark, with several days recording notably high figures.

Key departure dates with strong passenger loads include:

  • December 13: 168 passengers
  • December 20: 121 passengers
  • December 23: 116 passengers
  • December 25: 141 passengers
  • December 27: 149 passengers
  • December 30: 148 passengers

Route Operations and Future Demand

Operated by IndiGo Airlines, the service runs three times a week in each direction, resulting in a total of six weekly flights connecting the two cities. This route is only the second international connection available from Vijayawada International Airport.

Airport authorities have attributed the rising numbers to seasonal travel demand, festival holidays, and growing confidence among international travellers. The connection is gaining importance for both business travellers and tourists.

Despite the successful restart of the Singapore link, there remains a vocal demand from the flying public for more direct international services. Passengers have long urged the government and airlines to consider launching routes to other major hubs such as Dubai and Bangkok to further tap into the region's travel potential and reduce dependency on other airports.
