India and Bangladesh are moving towards normalising ties after months of strained relations, with a focus on resuming full-scale visa services, according to reports. Bangladesh has already restored visa services for Indian citizens across all categories, while India is reportedly planning a phased restart of its visa operations in the coming weeks.
Diplomatic Discussions
The matter was discussed during Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman’s recent visit to India. Bangladesh has confirmed that its visa centres in New Delhi, Kolkata, Agartala, Mumbai and Chennai are functional and has urged India to follow suit. Officials noted that services were restored in February after a brief suspension.
Broader Cooperation
Both countries are also exploring wider cooperation in trade, energy and connectivity once visa operations are fully normalised. This development marks a significant step in resetting bilateral relations after months of diplomatic friction.
