In a powerful statement from Mumbai, a prominent Sufi spiritual leader has denounced the recent violent incidents targeting the Hindu community in neighbouring Bangladesh. Mufti Manzur Ziyaee, who heads the International Sufi Caravan, called the attacks highly condemnable and urged the Bangladesh administration to take immediate action.
Strong Condemnation from Mumbai
Mufti Manzur Ziyaee, based in Mumbai, issued a clear statement addressing the troubling situation. He specifically highlighted incidents of killing, mob lynchings, and harassment faced by members of the Hindu minority community in Bangladesh. Ziyaee expressed deep concern over these acts of violence, stating they go against the very fabric of peaceful coexistence.
The Sufi leader directly appealed to Bangladesh's interim chief, Muhammad Yunus, and his administration. He urged them to crack down on the miscreants who are fomenting trouble and instability in the country. Ziyaee emphasized that it is the government's duty to ensure the safety and security of all its citizens.
Defending Centuries of Coexistence
Ziyaee provided a historical perspective to underscore his point. "Hindus have lived in what is now Bangladesh for centuries," he stated. He argued that the fanatics attacking Hindu minority members are not true representatives of their faith or nation. "They are actually enemies of both their country and faith," he asserted.
Drawing from Islamic teachings, Ziyaee reminded that Islam commands its followers to take care of their neighbours irrespective of caste, sex, or religion. "If they claim that they are Muslims, they must adhere to the principles of their religion which says that the rights of neighbours must be respected," he explained. This core principle of neighbourly respect and protection, he implied, is being blatantly violated.
A Sufi Message Against Extremism
As the chief of the International Sufi Caravan, Ziyaee's stance is rooted in the organization's core mission. The group works to promote the Sufi thoughts and the message of love and peace enshrined in Sufism's teachings. This philosophy stands in direct opposition to hatred and violence.
Ziyaee has consistently been vocal against extremism and forces that preach extremist views. His latest statement reinforces this position, framing the protection of minorities as a religious and civic imperative. "The government of Bangladesh must ensure that its own citizens, including Hindus, are not harmed by fanatics," he concluded, placing the ultimate responsibility on the state authorities to uphold law and order for everyone.
