The Indian Army, working closely with the Jammu and Kashmir government, has established a war memorial in the border district of Rajouri. Officials announced this development on Saturday. The memorial honors fallen heroes from Operation Sindoor in May last year.
Memorial Location and Historical Significance
Authorities erected the memorial at Gujjar Mandi Chowk in Rajouri. This exact spot witnessed intense Pakistani shelling on civilian areas during Operation Sindoor. The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 across the border. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan to avenge the killing of 26 people in the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Tribute to the Fallen Heroes
The memorial features murals of several individuals who lost their lives. Among them is Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Rajouri, Raj Kumar Thappa. An artillery shell struck his official residence on May 10, killing him. The memorial also honors Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of the Krishna Ghati Brigade and three other Army personnel. All died in the line of duty.

A separate statue at the site depicts an Army soldier standing alongside a local nomad. The nomad holds his child and a goat.
