A total of 550 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been selected for the upcoming Panchkula Municipal Corporation elections, according to officials. The machines will be deployed across various polling stations to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process.
Preparation and Deployment
The Election Commission has completed the first round of randomization of EVMs. These machines will undergo thorough testing and verification before being sent to polling booths. Each machine will be accompanied by a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) unit to enhance transparency.
Training for Poll Staff
Polling officials have been trained to handle the EVMs effectively. The training sessions covered machine operation, troubleshooting, and emergency protocols. Additionally, mock polls will be conducted to ensure the machines function correctly on election day.
Security Measures
Strict security measures are in place for the storage and transportation of EVMs. The machines are kept in strong rooms under 24-hour surveillance, with CCTV cameras and armed guards. Only authorized personnel will have access to the machines.
Voter Awareness Campaign
The Election Commission has launched a voter awareness campaign to educate citizens about the use of EVMs and VVPATs. Pamphlets, posters, and social media messages are being used to inform voters about the voting process and the importance of their participation.
The Panchkula Municipal Corporation elections are scheduled to be held next month, with voting expected to take place in a single phase. The commission has urged all eligible voters to exercise their franchise.
