Bihar Election 2025: RJD Suffers Major Setback, Wins Only 25 Seats
Bihar 2025: RJD Wins Just 25 Seats in Major Blow

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) faced a devastating blow in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, with the party managing to secure only 25 seats out of the 143 constituencies it contested. The election results, declared on November 14, 2025, revealed a dramatic shift in Bihar's political landscape that has left Tejashwi Yadav's party reeling.

Election Results: A Major Political Upheaval

According to the Election Commission of India's latest data, the RJD won just 18 seats and was leading in seven others, bringing their total tally to a mere 25 seats. This performance marks one of the party's worst electoral showings in recent history and represents a significant setback for Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.

The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the single-largest party with 77 seats, closely followed by Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) which secured 59 seats. The Mahagathbandhan coalition, of which RJD is a key component, managed to win only 21 seats collectively, including three secured by the Congress party.

Key Constituencies and Candidate Performance

Among the few bright spots for the RJD was Tejashwi Yadav himself, who was leading from the Raghopur constituency. Other notable winners included Gautam Krishna BDO from Mahishi, Jitendra Rai from Marhaura, and Dr. Ramanand Yadav from Fatuha.

However, the party suffered crushing defeats in numerous key constituencies. Prominent leaders who trailed in their respective seats included Renu Kushwaha from Bihariganj, Abdus Subhan from Baisi, and Amar Paswan from Bochahan (SC). The extensive list of losses spanned across all regions of Bihar, indicating a widespread rejection of the party's campaign.

Political Implications and Reactions

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed gratitude to alliance partners following the results, emphasizing that the "massive majority" reflects the "Unity" of the alliance. The JD(U) president, who is Bihar's longest-serving chief minister, had faced significant political scrutiny amid shifting alliances and rising anti-incumbency sentiments leading up to the elections.

The two-phase Bihar elections concluded on November 11, 2025, with vote-counting conducted by 243 returning officers in the presence of an equal number of counting observers. The counting process was monitored by candidates or their agents, whose numbers exceeded 18,000 across the state.

This election was widely seen as a crucial test for both Nitish Kumar's political standing and Tejashwi Yadav's ability to lead the opposition charge in Bihar. The results have undoubtedly reshaped the political dynamics in the state, with the RJD now facing an uphill battle to rebuild its support base and relevance in Bihar politics.
