Bihar Election 2025: Early Trends Paint a Dramatic Picture

The counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly Elections began at 8 am on 14th November 2025, and the initial trends from the Election Commission have already set the stage for a dramatic result day. Early leads indicate a mixed bag of fortunes for political dynasties and new entrants alike, with the Yadav family witnessing both success and setback.

Contrasting Fortunes for the Yadav Brothers

In a tale of two brothers, Tejashwi Yadav, the chief ministerial candidate for the Mahagathbandhan, has established a strong lead from the Raghopur constituency. As per the latest data, he has secured 8,387 votes, leading against his BJP rival, Satish Kumar Yadav, by a margin of over 900 votes. This performance reinforces his position as a key political figure in the state.

However, the story is different for his elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav. The Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) chief is facing a tough battle in the Mahua constituency, where he is currently trailing. Lok Janshakti Party's Sanjay Kumar Singh is leading in Mahua with a significant margin of 3,520 votes, suggesting a disappointing outcome for Tej Pratap.

Maithili Thakur's Historic Surge and Other Key Races

The early trends are particularly favourable for cultural icon and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, Maithili Thakur. Contesting from the Alinagar constituency, she is dominating her rival, RJD's Bonod Mishra, by a massive margin of 4,113 votes. Thakur has already polled over 11,000 votes compared to Mishra's 6,969. If this lead holds, she is poised to make history by becoming the youngest MLA to be elected from the state.

In another surprising twist, popular singer and Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Khesari Lal Yadav, who was initially leading from the Chapra seat, is now trailing by over 900 votes. The BJP candidate, Chhoti Kumari, has taken the lead with 3,301 votes.

Alliance-Wise Position in Early Trends

Looking at the broader picture, the ruling alliance seems to be holding its ground. As per the latest EC trends:

  • The Janata Dal (United) is leading on a total of 82 constituencies.
  • Its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is close behind, leading on 78 seats.
  • The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is ahead in 34 constituencies.
  • The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is leading on 22 seats.
  • The Congress has managed to secure a lead on seven seats.

The day is still young, and these are only initial trends, but they provide a crucial snapshot of the electoral mood in Bihar. All eyes are now on the final tally as counting continues across the state.
