Jaipur: The Congress party intensified its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday following the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination over allegations of a paper leak. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully accused the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government of negligence and attempting to suppress the issue.
Gehlot questions delayed action
Reacting to the controversy, Gehlot described the situation as “beyond understanding.” He pointed out that the examination was conducted on May 3, and students began alleging a paper leak on the same day and the following day, yet authorities failed to act promptly. “It is difficult to understand why no FIR was registered despite students complaining on May 3 and 4 that the paper had been leaked,” Gehlot said.
He emphasized that repeated paper leak controversies over the past three years have deeply demoralized the country’s youth. “Now the question is that paper leaks have occurred continuously in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Our young generation is extremely distressed because of this. This is a very big challenge. We must find a permanent solution to this problem,” the senior Congress leader remarked, calling the incident “very unfortunate.”
Jully alleges inaction and systematic failure
Tikaram Jully alleged inaction despite complaints from candidates. “Now the examination authority has cancelled the exam citing a paper leak, it is clear how irresponsibly the BJP government handled the matter,” he said. Jully further claimed that 89 paper leak incidents have taken place during the BJP’s 10 years in power, which he said reflected the “harsh reality” of the government’s functioning.
He accused the BJP of making tall promises and claiming strict action during elections while allegedly failing to protect the future of students. “Paper leaks have now become the identity of BJP rule,” Jully alleged. He added that to maintain its image, the government kept the future of lakhs of students at stake for nearly two weeks. “This is not just administrative failure but proof of the BJP’s organised irresponsibility and insensitivity towards youth,” he said.
The Congress leaders demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible, calling for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
