Chief Election Officer Conducts Surprise Inspection of Election Warehouse in Patiala

In a significant move to bolster election readiness, the state Chief Election Officer-cum-Administrative Secretary for Elections, Anindita Mitra, carried out an unannounced inspection of the state-level election warehouse located in Patiala today. This proactive step underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring seamless electoral processes ahead of upcoming polls.

Comprehensive Review of Election Equipment and Voter List Preparations

During her visit, Mitra meticulously examined the election-related equipment stored at the facility. She focused on critical aspects such as the preparation of voter lists, issuance of identity cards, distribution processes, and the handling of various forms, envelopes, and stationery designated for gurdwara elections and other non-consumable election materials. This thorough assessment aimed to identify and address any potential bottlenecks that could hinder efficient election operations.

Directives to Rectify Discrepancies and Update Materials

Mitra issued clear instructions to officials to check and correct discrepancies in voter lists before the formal revision process commences. She emphasized the need to rectify common errors, including blurred or black-and-white photographs, tilted images, and typographical mistakes in voters' names and personal details. Additionally, while inspecting the inventory, Mitra noted that certain outdated forms and registers had been replaced by the Election Commission of India and were no longer in use.

She directed officials to dispose of these obsolete materials in strict accordance with regulations, ensuring adequate space and secure storage for items required in forthcoming elections. Furthermore, Mitra instructed the authorities to undertake necessary repairs to the aging warehouse building to maintain its structural integrity and functionality.

Review Meeting on District-Level Election Preparedness

Earlier in the day, at the District Administrative Complex, the Chief Election Officer held a review meeting with Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia and Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Simarpreet Kaur. The meeting aimed to assess district-level election preparedness, related administrative matters, and the status of the electronic voting machine (EVM) warehouse. This collaborative effort highlights the coordinated approach being taken to ensure all logistical and administrative aspects are meticulously planned and executed.

This inspection and subsequent directives reflect a proactive stance by election authorities to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in the electoral process, setting a robust foundation for future elections in the region.
