Haryana Local Body Election Results 2026: Counting Begins for Seven Civic Bodies
Counting of votes for Haryana's municipal elections is underway across seven urban local bodies, including Ambala, Panchkula, Sonipat, Rewari, Dharuhera, Sampla and Uklana. A total of 4,78,068 votes polled on Sunday are being counted to decide the fate of 777 candidates. The process is being conducted under strict Election Commission supervision with CCTV surveillance, barricading and heavy police deployment to ensure a peaceful and transparent counting process.
Tight Security and EC Monitoring at Counting Centres
Elaborate security arrangements are in place across all counting centres in Haryana as votes are being counted for municipal elections and bypolls. Only authorised personnel are allowed entry, with CCTV surveillance, barricading and heavy police deployment ensuring strict control at venues. The State Election Commission has directed officials to maintain transparency and conduct the counting process in a peaceful and orderly manner under continuous supervision at every stage.
BJP vs Congress in Key Civic Battles
High-stakes contests between BJP and Congress are underway in key urban centres including Sonipat, Ambala and Panchkula, where mayoral and ward results are being closely watched. The civic elections are seen as an important indicator of grassroots political sentiment in Haryana. Alongside main municipal polls, by-elections were also held in several wards across districts. Authorities have deployed multi-layer security and CCTV surveillance at counting centres to ensure smooth and fair counting of votes.
777 Candidates in Fray as Fate Decided Today
The fate of 777 candidates, including 28 mayoral aspirants, is being decided as counting begins across Haryana's seven municipal bodies. Voting was held on Sunday across municipal corporations, councils and committees. Out of 8.73 lakh eligible voters, around 4.75 lakh cast their votes. The election saw varying turnout across regions, with Rohtak leading at 79.2% while Sonipat and Panchkula recorded relatively lower participation. Counting is being conducted under strict Election Commission supervision.
Turnout Shows Regional Variation Across Haryana
Haryana witnessed mixed voter participation in municipal elections, with overall turnout at 54.5%. Rohtak recorded the highest turnout at 79.2%, followed by strong participation in Uklana and moderate figures in Rewari at 66.1%. Urban centres like Panchkula and Sonipat saw comparatively lower turnout. Officials said 817 polling booths were set up across the state and polling remained largely peaceful, reflecting varied voter engagement across urban and semi-urban regions.
By-elections Held in Multiple Municipal Wards
Alongside main municipal elections, by-elections were conducted in several municipal wards including Taraori, Jhajjar, Rajound, Kanina, Sadhaura and Tohana. These bypolls were held to fill vacant seats across municipal councils and committees. The overall electoral exercise covered both urban and semi-urban local bodies in Haryana. Election authorities ensured smooth conduct of polling with adequate security arrangements, while counting is now underway under strict supervision across all designated centres.
State Election Commissioner Devender Kalyan said directions have been issued to district election officers and returning officers to ensure that counting is conducted in a fair, transparent, peaceful and orderly manner. The counting is being carried out strictly as per prescribed rules and guidelines, with continuous monitoring at every stage to maintain credibility and transparency.
Authorities have ensured multi-layer security at all counting centres. Only authorised personnel are being allowed entry, while CCTV surveillance, barricading and adequate police deployment have been arranged to maintain strict security. Special arrangements have also been made for the secure transportation of EVMs from strong rooms to counting centres and back after completion of the process.
Officials further said that special police deployment is in place for safe movement of EVMs, while strict surveillance of anti-social and suspicious elements has been ordered to prevent any disturbance during counting.
