The Congress party has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in vote buying in the Dharuhera municipal council elections in Haryana. The allegations come as the polling for the municipal council is underway, with both parties locked in a fierce contest.
Allegations of Distribution of Money and Gifts
According to Congress leaders, BJP workers were seen distributing cash and gifts to voters in several wards of Dharuhera. The party has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against the accused. Senior Congress leader and former minister Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav said, "Our workers have reported that BJP agents are openly buying votes. This is a serious violation of the model code of conduct."
BJP Denies Charges
The BJP, however, has dismissed the allegations as baseless. Party spokesperson Rajesh Garg said, "The Congress is making false accusations because they are losing ground. We are confident of winning the elections fairly." He added that the BJP has always followed the rules and regulations set by the Election Commission.
Election Commission Takes Note
The Election Commission has taken cognizance of the complaint and has directed the district administration to look into the matter. A team of officials has been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure free and fair polling. The commission has also warned that any violation of the code of conduct will be dealt with strictly.

Dharuhera is a key municipal council in the Rewari district of Haryana. The elections are seen as a litmus test for both parties ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. The Congress is hoping to regain lost ground, while the BJP aims to maintain its dominance in the region.
