The special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Jharkhand will formally commence on June 30, with the final rolls set to be published on October 7. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the third phase of SIR, which covers 16 states and three Union Territories.
From June 30 to July 29, booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits for voter verification. According to the ECI notification, October 1, 2026 has been fixed as the qualifying date for the SIR.
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5. Following this, the period for filing claims and objections will run until September 4. The final electoral roll will be published on October 7.
Jharkhand's chief electoral officer (CEO), K Ravi Kumar, stated that preparations for the SIR in the state have been initiated well in advance. The primary focus is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.
Elaborating on the plans for smooth execution, Kumar said, “We will publish a list of unmapped voters on May 23 at all polling station levels. The list will contain the names and contact numbers of their respective BLOs, enabling voters to reach out for mapping. A copy of the unmapped voters list will also be provided to BLOs to finalize the ASDD list (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate). Remaining unmapped voters can prepare necessary documents to attach with the enumeration form, which will be submitted along with the declaration.”
Notably, as of May 12, 2026, the total number of voters in the state stands at 2,64,89,777. Currently, 29,571 BLOs are engaged in the SIR work, and the updated number of booth-level agents (BLAs) appointed by various recognized political parties is 21,644, according to officials at the CEO office.
Appealing to the public, Kumar said, “All eligible citizens of the state should cooperate in this crucial exercise so that the entire process remains smooth and no legitimate person is left out of the list.”
