A significant number of voters across Jharkhand, including in Ranchi, visited polling stations on Saturday to examine the list of unmapped voters and verify whether their names were included in the electoral roll. The state's chief electoral officer (CEO) had released the list of voters whose mapping could not be completed ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, scheduled to commence in June.
Unmapped Voter List Displayed at Polling Booths
CEO K Ravi Kumar announced that the unmapped voter list will be displayed at all polling booths for two weeks starting Saturday. Voters can visit their respective polling stations to review the list and take necessary action.
Voters Seek Assistance from Booth Level Officers
At several locations, voters whose names appeared on the unmapped list provided their details and completed the mapping process with the help of booth level officers (BLOs). For instance, Ashok Kumar Marianus Soy visited Balika Siksha Bhawan High School in Lalpur after failing to confirm his name's mapping online. He was relieved to find his name not on the unmapped list. In contrast, Prem Chand Brind and his wife from Peace Road discovered that their names were not mapped despite being long-time voters. Brind, who had previously served election duty, expressed surprise, saying, "I have found out that my name does not exist in any list."
Positive Response from Voters
Jaya Pandey, BLO for one of the two booths at a school, reported a good response from voters verifying their mapping status. Seema Rani Minz, another BLO at a booth at Union Club and Library, noted a steady turnout. "People are very aware. Since morning, many are turning up to know about their mapping in the voter list. I have mapped around 20 already, whose names were in the unmapped list," she said.
Procedure for Mapped and Unmapped Voters
Officials clarified that voters whose names are already mapped will not need to submit additional documents during the SIR. However, if a name appears on the unmapped list, voters can contact their BLO to get mapping done from the voter list of the previous SIR.
Unusual Cases Surface
A few unexpected cases emerged during the process. One voter discovered that her own name was mapped but her parents' names were not, prompting her to approach the concerned BLO for resolution. In another instance, a man complained that his name and his father's name had been swapped in the records.
