Jharkhand Voters Prepare Documents for Electoral Roll Revision Starting June 30
Jharkhand Voters Gear Up for Electoral Roll Revision

Ranchi: Voters in Jharkhand are busy assembling the necessary documents for the door-to-door verification process that will be conducted as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 29, 2026.

Voter Reactions to the Revision Process

Mujahid Alam, a garment vendor, expressed his support for the initiative. He said, "We wholeheartedly welcome the step taken by the Election Commission (EC) to verify and revise the electoral rolls through door-to-door enumeration, pre-filled forms, and verification of earlier voters' data. As a seventh-generation family residing in the country, we have all the documents approved by the EC to prove we are genuine voters."

Suman Chakraborty, a resident of Purulia Road, shared his views: "Though the deletion of names during SIR in West Bengal and Bihar is concerning, we are confident as our ancestors have participated in all polls since Independence."

Homemaker Deepali Chaudhury said, "I am not tense as I have been voting since 1995."

EC's Schedule for the Special Intensive Revision

The Election Commission has announced the third phase of SIR, which will cover 16 states and three Union Territories, including Jharkhand. The date for the revision has been fixed as October 1. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on August 5, while the window for filing claims and objections will remain open until September 4. The final rolls are expected to be published on October 7.

Voters across the state are preparing their documents, including identity proofs and residence certificates, to ensure a smooth verification process. The door-to-door enumeration aims to update the electoral rolls by adding new voters, removing deceased or shifted individuals, and correcting any discrepancies in the existing data.
