Bhojpuri Superstar Enters Political Arena in Chapra
In a significant political development, popular Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav is making his electoral debut with the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) party in Bihar's Chapra constituency. The 39-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Shatrugan Yadav, will face off against Bhartiya Janta Party's (BJP) candidate Chhoti Kumari in what promises to be a closely watched contest.
Chapra Constituency: A BJP Stronghold
The Chapra assembly seat, located in Saran district, represents a significant challenge for the newcomer as it has been held by the BJP for two consecutive terms. Dr C N Gupta of BJP has represented this General category seat since 2015, successfully defending it in the 2020 assembly elections.
According to election records, Dr Gupta retained the Chapra seat in 2020 by polling 75,710 votes (45.5%) in an election that saw a 53.5% voter turnout. His victory margin came against RJD's Randhir Kumar Singh, who secured 68,939 votes.
The 2015 assembly elections told a similar story, with Dr C N Gupta winning the constituency for BJP by securing 71,646 votes (45.3%) during a 52.1% turnout.
Khesari Lal Yadav's Profile and Challenges
Khesari Lal Yadav brings both star power and substantial personal wealth to the political battlefield. According to MyNeta data, the actor declared total assets worth ₹32.2 crore with liabilities of ₹3.3 crore. His educational qualification is listed as 10th Pass, and he has one case registered against him.
The Chapra constituency is one of the six assembly segments of the Saran parliamentary constituency, adding strategic importance to this contest. Political analysts are watching closely to see if Yadav's celebrity status can overcome BJP's established dominance in this region.
As voting concludes and counting begins, all eyes remain on Chapra to see whether the Bhojpuri superstar can translate his screen popularity into political success or if the BJP will maintain its winning streak in this crucial Bihar constituency.
