Patna: Frustration is mounting among vehicle owners in Samastipur district over the non-payment of compensation for around 4,000 private vehicles requisitioned during the Bihar assembly elections in 2025. Eight months after the polls, owners claim dues worth nearly Rs5 crore remain unpaid.
Agitation Planned by Vehicle Owners' Association
The District Motor Vyavasayi Sangh has decided to launch a phased agitation, with the first protest scheduled outside the collectorate on June 11. Sangh president Sanjay Kumar Singh said hundreds of vehicle owners had submitted a memorandum to the district election officer-cum-DM on May 25, seeking immediate release of the pending payments.
“We gave the administration a 10-day ultimatum. With no positive response, we have decided to protest against the Election Commission at the collectorate gate on June 11,” Singh said.
Warning of Intensified Protests
The Sangh’s general secretary, Sanjeev Kumar Suman, warned that the June 11 protest would only be the beginning, which would later intensify. The decision to launch the agitation was taken at a meeting of Sangh members on Sunday.
Samastipur DM Roshan Kushwaha neither answered phone calls nor responded to text messages seeking his comments on the matter.
