Chandigarh: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes for seven municipal bodies, scheduled to take place on Wednesday. A total of 478,068 votes were cast on Sunday. The counting will determine the fate of 777 candidates, including 28 candidates vying for the posts of mayors in Ambala, Sonipat, and Panchkula.
Counting Process and Guidelines
Devender Kalyan, the state election commissioner, stated that directions have been issued to district election officers and returning officers to ensure the counting process is conducted in a fair, transparent, peaceful, and orderly manner. "The counting will begin at 8 am. The process will be conducted as per prescribed rules and guidelines, and every stage will be monitored by the concerned officer to maintain transparency and credibility," he said.
Security Measures at Counting Centers
A senior officer confirmed that only authorized persons will be allowed entry at the counting venues. Comprehensive security measures have been implemented, including CCTV surveillance, barricading, and deployment of adequate police force. All basic facilities have been ensured at the centers. Special police security will be provided while transporting the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from strong rooms to counting centers and again after the counting process to ensure their safe movement. Strict monitoring of antisocial and undesirable elements has also been directed.
Additional Precautions
The officer added that special checking drives will be conducted around the counting centers to prevent any law and order issues. These measures aim to maintain a secure environment throughout the counting process.
