UP Draft Voter List 2026 Out: 2.89 Crore Names Deleted

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially published the draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh following the Summary Revision (SIR) process. This crucial list, which forms the foundation for future elections in the state, reveals a significant reduction in the number of registered voters.

Massive Deletions in Uttar Pradesh Voter List

According to UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, the draft roll retains 12.55 crore voters out of a previous total of 15.44 crore. This means a staggering 2.89 crore names have been deleted, representing the highest deletion rate in the country at 18.7%. The names were removed due to reasons such as deaths, permanent migration, or detection of multiple registrations.

This places Uttar Pradesh at the top for voter list deletions, ahead of Tamil Nadu (15%) and Gujarat (14.5%), whose draft rolls were published earlier this month.

What to Do If Your Name is Missing?

If you find your name excluded from the draft roll, you must take proactive steps to get it reinstated. The ECI has opened a claims and objections window from January 6 to February 6, 2026. During this period, eligible citizens can apply for inclusion or correction.

To include a missing name, you need to fill and submit Form 6. For making corrections to existing entries, such as address or personal details, you must use Form 8.

These forms can be submitted conveniently through two online channels: the official ECI website at https://voters.eci.gov.in or via the ECINET mobile application. For those preferring offline methods, a visit to the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) is necessary.

Essential Documents for Voter Registration

As per ECI guidelines, individuals seeking to add their names, especially those previously listed as 'untraceable', must provide valid proof. CEO Rinwa clarified that such voters need to show proof of inclusion in the 2003 SIR list or any of the ECI prescribed documents.

Keep the following documents handy for the registration process:

  • Any government-issued identity card or pension payment order.
  • Identity cards/certificates issued by banks, post offices, LIC, or PSUs before July 1, 1987.
  • Birth certificate from a competent authority.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Matriculation or educational certificate from a recognized board.
  • Permanent residence certificate, Forest Right Certificate, or caste certificate (OBC/SC/ST).
  • National Register of Citizens (NRC) extract or family register.
  • Land or house allotment certificate issued by the government.

The publication of the draft roll is a critical step in ensuring a clean and accurate electoral database. All citizens of Uttar Pradesh are urged to verify their details promptly and utilize the one-month window to file claims or objections to secure their fundamental right to vote.
