The District Youth Congress Committee organized a significant protest in Shivamogga on Wednesday, condemning the alleged leak of the NEET question paper. The demonstrators attempted to lay siege to the residence of Member of Parliament BY Raghavendra in Vinoba Nagar, accusing the BJP-led NDA government of compromising the integrity of national competitive examinations and endangering the futures of millions of students.
Protest Details
Led by District Youth Congress President Harshit Gowda, the protesters marched from Police Chowki Circle, voicing strong opposition against the government's handling of the exam process. The situation turned dramatic as activists tried to breach the security barricades, leading to a scuffle with law enforcement personnel. Several workers were detained and taken into custody as a result of the confrontation.
Memorandum and Allegations
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the local authorities, addressed to the President, demanding accountability for the alleged leak. They claimed that the current administration had undermined a merit-based system that was specifically designed to benefit rural and middle-class students. The protest highlighted widespread concerns about the fairness of the NEET examination, which is crucial for medical admissions across the country.
Key Participants
Among the notable attendees were District Congress President R Prasanna Kumar and Chetan Gowda, who supported the protesters' demands for a thorough investigation and corrective measures to restore trust in the examination process.
The protest in Shivamogga is part of a larger outcry across various states, with students and political groups calling for stringent action against those responsible for the leak and for reforms to prevent future incidents. The Youth Congress has vowed to continue its agitation until the government takes concrete steps to safeguard the sanctity of competitive exams.
